Today, a delegation of Russian experts, led by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, visited Pyongyang, North Korea.

According to the state-run media Rodong Sinmun today, the Russian delegation team, headed by Russian Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Roman Chekushov, arrived in the North Korean capital the day before.

North Korea’s External Economic Relations Minister Yun Jong Ho and Russian embassy officials greeted the team at Pyongyang International Airport.

The reception followed on the evening with Minister Yun hosting a welcome banquet at the Yangakkdo International Hotel, the largest operating hotel in North Korea.

Economic cooperation between North Korea and Russia is expected to have been discussed, although the newspaper did not specify the delegation’s schedule or purpose for the visit.

The newspaper also reported, “A delegation of educational officials from Russia’s Primorsky Krai, led by Elvira Shamonova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, arrived in Pyongyang the day before.”

Since signing a “comprehensive strategic partnership treaty” during the June summit in Pyongyang, North Korea and Russia have been enhancing their cooperation in various sectors, including military, economics, and education.
