Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on Thursday that Kim Il Sung University in North Korea is pursuing plans to establish a representative office in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok, a scientific complex located in Siberia, Russia.

According to a newsletter published on Novosibirsk State University’s (NSU) website on Wednesday, the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok scientific complex is actively working to resolve organizational issues and find a suitable location for the Kim Il Sung University representative office.

The newsletter emphasized that this initiative aims to strengthen scientific and educational cooperation between North Korea and Russia, creating opportunities for joint research and experience sharing. It also highlighted that the representative office would facilitate the development of joint research programs, student and faculty exchanges, and the organization of academic conferences and seminars between North Korea and Russia.

Moreover, the newsletter stressed that this collaboration would create additional opportunities for the internationalization of education in both countries and enhance the quality of scientific research.

The two universities plan to prepare North Korean students to enroll at Novosibirsk State University and support specialized educational programs in physics and mathematics.

Previously, a delegation from Kim Il Sung University, led by President Kim Seungchan, visited Russia in January. The delegation is also planning to participate in an international event at Novosibirsk State University in April.
