Son Heung-min (LA FC) has secured a spot on the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star roster, joining soccer luminaries Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) and Thomas Müller (Vancouver Whitecaps).
The MLS office unveiled the 29-player squad on Thursday for the upcoming clash against the Liga MX All-Stars.
Son, who earned his place through fan voting, is listed among the forwards. Despite not finding the back of the net in his 13 MLS appearances this season, Son leads the league with an impressive tally of 9 assists.
Following South Korea’s elimination from the 2026 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup group stage in North America, Son returned home for some well-deserved rest. The star forward featured in all three group matches but couldn’t register any offensive contributions.
Messi, another fan-favorite, secured his spot in the forward line-up. The Argentine maestro is currently the top scorer in the North American World Cup with 8 goals. His stellar performances have propelled Argentina to the quarterfinals, as they chase a second consecutive title.
While German legend Müller missed out on fan selection, he earned a midfield spot through the coach’s pick. Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul also got the nod from the coach for the All-Star showdown.
South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who faced off against Son in the World Cup, has been selected for the defensive line, setting up an intriguing reunion.
The MLS All-Stars are set to lock horns with their Liga MX counterparts on July 29 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
