Apple has distributed official invitations for WWDC 2025 in two formats: select developers and students will attend in person at Apple Park, while others can tune in for free online via YouTube, Apple’s official website, or the Apple Developer app. Apple is expected to unveil major software updates at this event, including iOS 19, iPadOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, tvOS 19, and visionOS 3. The anticipated comprehensive design overhaul across platforms has sparked particular interest. Engadget has compiled a list of expected highlights for Apple’s WWDC 2025.
Apple is reportedly preparing a sweeping visual redesign across its platforms, drawing inspiration from VisionOS, the operating system powering the Apple Vision Pro headset. This overhaul is expected to bring significant changes, such as rounded icons for the home screen and control center. The update will also introduce nuanced interface modifications, including repositioned in-app tab views and message search boxes. Apple aims to create a unified design language across its operating systems, facilitating seamless transitions between iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
The iPad Pro is poised to evolve into a more productivity-focused device, inching closer to macOS functionality. Despite its high-performance hardware, the iPad Pro has been constrained by software limitations in challenging Mac territory. However, the upcoming iPadOS update promises to significantly enhance multitasking and window management capabilities, offering a more robust working environment than the current Stage Manager. This strategic move appears designed to boost the iPad Pro’s productivity without cannibalizing Mac sales.
Artificial intelligence (AI) features are also expected to take center stage. The Apple Intelligence-based Siri upgrade, unveiled last year, has yet to be released. Apple previously indicated that the development was taking longer than anticipated but suggested a possible launch within this year. However, announcements related to this upgrade are not expected at WWDC 2025.
Instead, Apple plans to introduce a new AI-powered battery management mode. This feature will analyze user behavior to optimize power consumption and is anticipated to be a key technology in the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air. Additionally, Apple is developing an AI-based virtual health coach, which may debut in the iOS 19.4 update. This virtual coach will collect user data from Apple devices and provide personalized health advice through a chatbot-style AI. Apple is reportedly training AI agents using data from in-house medical professionals to facilitate this.
Furthermore, iOS 19 will integrate Rich Communication Services (RCS) to enhance messaging capabilities and support real-time translation through AirPods. The update is also expected to introduce a redesigned camera app with a more fluid and transparent interface.
