Son Heung-min of Major League Soccer (MLS) team Los Angeles (LA FC) will start on the bench after being left out of the starting lineup for the first time in 14 games.
LA FC will face the Colorado Rapids in an away game of the 2026 MLS regular season at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, at 10:30 a.m. (KST) on Thursday.
LA FC currently sits near the top of the Western Conference standings. However, the team has been struggling recently, having failed to qualify for the League Cup tournament and suffering a loss to San Diego.
Although LA FC needs to turn things around against Colorado, the team has decided to give its key players, who have been under significant physical strain due to a recent grueling schedule, some rest.
Initially, the official MLS website announced that Son would start the match. However, just before kickoff, his status was updated to a bench player.
Son, who had started 13 consecutive matches, has gone scoreless in four straight games, including three League Cup matches and one MLS regular-season game, likely due to the grueling schedule.
Denis Bouanga, Marco Delgado, and Hugo Lloris were also left out of the starting lineup and will watch the game from the bench.
