AI vs. South Koreans: Who Knows Korea Best?

FutureAI vs. South Koreans: Who Knows Korea Best?
Korean Tourism Organization

The tourism promotional video “The Tiger is Coming Down,” which has garnered 600 million views on YouTube, will now be produced with the participation of the Korean public.

The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced on May 20 that they will hold a nationwide comment event titled “The Real Korean Trip Recommended by Koreans and Unknown to Artificial Intelligence (AI).” This event will take place in the form of participating in the comment section of the video “AI vs KOREAN,” which has been released on the Korea Tourism Organization’s TV YouTube channel.

The KTO has consistently released popular Korean tourism promotional videos, such as the Challenge Korea series featuring Lee Jung Jae, the Feel the Rhythm of Korea series including “The Tiger is Coming Down” and “Mad Max,” and If Van Gogh Visited Korea, which was produced using generative AI.

This year, the KTO plans to produce videos together with the public with this promotion being the first step in that direction.

The video released on the KTO TV YouTube channel features entertaining content. Dissatisfied with the AI-recommended trips around Korea, Koreans decide to take matters into their own hands. They introduce the authentic Korean travel experiences they know, showing the AI a thing or two.

In addition, a comment event called “The Real Korean Trip Recommended by Koreans” will be held for three weeks until June 9. Around 240 commenters will be selected through a lottery pick and given prizes. In contrast, some comments will be used as material for the Korean tourism promotional video to be released this year.

Park Yoon Sook, the Director of the Tourism Content Division at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, “In line with the rapidly emerging trend of Dailycation, we plan to create Korean tourism promotional videos together with the public. This way, the everyday life and travel methods Koreans enjoy can become content that promotes the charm of a real Korean Trip.” She added, “If you leave a comment about the travel course or experience you want to introduce to travelers, it could greatly help us achieve this year’s goal of attracting 20 million foreign visitors.”
