LG CNS is joining forces with artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor firm FuriosaAI to develop neural processing unit (NPU) based AI services, aiming to capture the public AI transformation (AX) market.

On Thursday, LG CNS announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with FuriosaAI to expand their collaboration on AI infrastructure projects. The ceremony took place at LG CNS headquarters in LG Science Park, Magok, Seoul.

Key executives, including Kim Tae-hoon, Vice President of LG CNS’s AI Cloud Business Division, and Baek Jun-ho, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FuriosaAI, were present at the signing.

The two companies plan to strengthen their partnership within the Independent AI Foundation Model project, part of the LG AI Research Consortium.

LG CNS will focus on optimizing and commercializing AI services based on K-EXAONE, which incorporates FuriosaAI’s RNGD technology. This collaboration aims to maximize synergy between the two firms. FuriosaAI will ensure a stable supply of RNGD and provide technical support for NPUs.

Through this partnership, both companies aim to bolster a sovereign AI ecosystem comprising homegrown AI models, services, infrastructure, and AI semiconductors. They plan to offer tailored services for the public AX market.

As an initial step, LG CNS will integrate FuriosaAI’s NPU into the infrastructure of its proprietary enterprise AI platform, AgenticWorks, for technical validation.

LG CNS intends to enhance both power and operational efficiency of its AgenticAI services through NPU-based infrastructure.

The companies will also validate performance optimization technology for NPU-based Graphic Processing Unit as a Service (GPUaaS). GPUaaS is gaining prominence in the AI era as it allows users to access high-performance computing environments without purchasing physical hardware.

Looking ahead, the partners will work on optimizing infrastructure to improve power efficiency and cost-effectiveness by implementing NPUs across all stages of AI processes, including training, service operation, and inference.

FuriosaAI, a promising startup in the AI sector, specializes in designing and developing NPUs – semiconductors tailored for AI computation.
