LG Uplus announced on Thursday that it will be the first telecommunications company to participate in the International Water Industry Expo, showcasing its communication technology capabilities applicable across all areas of water and sewage management.
From March 18 to 20, LG Uplus will set up a booth at the WATER KOREA expo held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) Exhibition Center in Busan. The company will introduce solutions related to the water industry, ranging from remote water meter readings to facility safety management.
The International Water Industry Expo, the largest comprehensive exhibition in the domestic water industry, has been held since 2002. LG Uplus, as the leading telecommunications provider in the remote water meter reading sector, is participating in this expo.
Since commercializing the nationwide Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network in July 2017, LG Uplus has been operating approximately 2.5 million lines in the remote water meter reading field. The company utilizes the 850MHz frequency band, known for its excellent penetration and diffraction performance, to support seamless data transmission.
At this expo, LG Uplus will showcase IoT communication and essential solutions that provide stable connectivity even in challenging conditions, such as underground environments. IoT devices attached to water meters automatically collect usage data and transmit it over the communication network, improving accuracy compared to traditional on-site readings and detecting leaks and excessive usage.
The exhibition booth will feature a tailored AIoT solution that monitors the condition of facilities throughout the entire process of supplying purified water to homes and transporting it to sewage treatment plants. This solution helps detect shocks and leaks, enabling rapid response to incidents.
Additionally, LG Uplus will display an artificial intelligence (AI) based Integrated Control Platform that allows users to monitor various devices at a glance.
This platform analyzes data collected from IoT devices using AI to detect abnormal situations such as leaks and ground subsidence, enabling remote control of devices.
Park Sung-yul, Executive Vice President of the Enterprise Business Innovation Group at LG Uplus, stated that it has consistently worked to improve the efficiency of water industry management based on the reliable capabilities rooted in excellent frequency IoT communication. He added that moving forward, it will provide services that enhance operational efficiency in water resource management for local governments and the public sector while contributing to the prevention of safety incidents through customized solutions that combine AI and IoT technologies.
