On Monday, Lunit, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, discussed a potential collaboration with the French government’s General Secretariat for Investment (SGPI).
Lunit said an SGPI representative visited its headquarters in Seoul’s Gangnam district the previous day.
This visit was timed to coincide with the recent summit between South Korean President Lee JaeMyung and French President Emmanuel Macron. The two nations agreed to elevate their relationship to a global strategic partnership on the 140th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, with a focus on strengthening cooperation in key technological areas, including AI and quantum computing.
SGPI, operating directly under the French Prime Minister’s office, is the central authority responsible for designing, coordinating, and evaluating the 54 billion EUR (about $62.24 billion) national strategic investment program France 2030. This initiative supports research, development, and industrialization in strategic sectors including energy, AI, and biohealth.
During the meeting, Lunit CEO Seo Beom Seok presented the company’s medical AI technology portfolio, global business operations, and its expansion in the European market, including France. The discussions delved into the interest in medical AI technology across France and Europe, investment trends, and policy insights in the public health sector.
Seo said that as South Korea and France move toward a global strategic partnership, it is meaningful that SGPI, a key player in the French economy, visited Lunit to explore the potential of medical AI. He added that the company plans to use this visit to help ensure Lunit’s AI technology delivers tangible value in public healthcare systems across Europe, including France.
