Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Coreline Soft said on Aug. 7 that it has won a lung cancer screening project in the Lostau region of Germany through Canon Medical Systems GmbH (Canon).
The contract is a long-term agreement that includes initial software supply and implementation, along with 10 years of technical and operational support. Coreline Soft’s chest CT AI solutions will be integrated into Germany’s low-dose CT (LDCT)-based lung cancer screening system.
The project involves Coreline Soft supplying its solutions as part of Canon’s successful bid for the lung cancer screening project in the Lostau region. Coreline Soft will supply the software to Canon and handle installation, training and long-term technical support.
The products supplied include the lung cancer screening AI solution AVIEW LCS Plus, the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) analysis solution AVIEW COPD and the screening operations platform AVIEW HUB.
AVIEW LCS Plus analyzes pulmonary nodules and provides information on emphysema and coronary artery calcification (CAC), while AVIEW COPD supports quantitative emphysema analysis and automated lesion detection. AVIEW HUB connects imaging and AI analysis results across interpreting institutions and provides follow-up and quality management functions.
Germany has included low-dose CT lung cancer screening for high-risk and former smokers in its statutory health insurance (GKV) system since April. As a result, demand is growing for screening workflows that connect imaging, AI analysis, interpretation and follow-up management, according to the company.
Coreline Soft’s business in Germany is also expanding. The company signed 10 new hospital contracts last year, but secured more than 44 new contracts from January through May this year alone. Its total contracts and deployments in the first half of the year rose to about 60.
“Germany is an important market where actual hospital operating systems are being established following the institutionalization of lung cancer screening,” Coreline Soft CEO Kim Jin-kook said. “We will build an operational AI infrastructure that can be repeatedly utilized across the lung cancer screening markets in Germany and Europe.”
Coreline Soft is an AI medical imaging solutions company jointly founded in September 2012 by three KAIST graduates who were among the first generation of medical imaging researchers in South Korea. The company went public on the KOSDAQ in 2023 through a technology-based special listing.
Medical imaging is used to diagnose diseases and includes CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound and mammography. Coreline Soft specializes in CT-based image analysis. Its business model consists of a CapEx model, in which revenue is recognized upfront when its AI diagnostic software is deployed at hospitals and government institutions, and an annual subscription model, in which the company collects subscription fees each year.
The CapEx model is dominant in South Korea and Europe, while monthly or annual subscription models are more common in the U.S. and Japan. Recently, the quality of the revenue structure has emerged as a more important indicator than short-term revenue scale.
