Rokit Healthcare is targeting Southeast Asia’s regenerative medicine market after securing a Singapore patent for a personalized patch technology that regenerates patients’ skin tissue.
Rokit Healthcare, an AI-powered hyper-personalized organ regeneration platform company, said Sept. 2 that it received a decision to grant a patent from the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) for the core technology behind its autologous dermal regeneration patch.
The patent covers a “two-component bioink composition for a dermal regeneration sheet and a method for manufacturing personalized skin regeneration sheets using the composition.” The technology enables skin regeneration patches in shapes tailored to patients’ needs to be produced and applied in the operating room.
The company said a key feature of the technology is that personalized patches can be produced on demand without a separate cell culture process. It is pursuing applications in five areas, including diabetic foot ulcers, breast reconstruction following breast cancer surgery, severe burns, reconstruction of defects following skin cancer removal and pressure ulcers.
Diabetic foot ulcers are a representative type of chronic wound in which wounds on the feet of diabetes patients fail to heal easily and can worsen into ulcers. Treatment is difficult because of factors including poor blood circulation and nerve damage, and in severe cases, the condition can lead to infection or tissue necrosis and require amputation.
As a result, demand continues for advanced wound treatment technologies that help damaged tissue recover.
Rokit Healthcare plans to use the patent as a foothold to establish Singapore as a base for entering the Southeast Asian market. The company plans to gradually expand its business into major ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
According to market research firm Grand View Research, Southeast Asia’s advanced wound care market is projected to grow from about $221 million in 2022 to about $403 million in 2032. Diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and burn treatment are among the major market segments.
The overall Asia-Pacific advanced wound care market is expected to expand from $2.42 billion in 2024 to $3.31 billion in 2030.
The company also plans to expand its skin regeneration patch technology beyond the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds into medical aesthetics, including scar reconstruction and restoration of skin defects.
