Vuno to Discuss AI for Pediatric Patient Safety at Global Symposium

Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Vuno will discuss with experts from South Korea and abroad how AI can be used to quickly detect and respond to deterioration in pediatric patients.

Vuno said Sept. 11 that it will host the “Global Patient Safety Summit in Pediatrics” at the Josun Palace Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, on Sept. 19. The event follows the “Global Patient Safety Summit 2026” held in February.

The symposium will focus on rapid response systems (RRS) and AI-based early warning systems (EWS) for early detection of severe deterioration in pediatric patients. An RRS is a system that identifies warning signs before a patient’s condition becomes critical, enabling medical staff to respond quickly.

Children have different normal ranges for vital signs such as heart rate and respiratory rate depending on age, and their patterns of deterioration also differ from those of adults, making dedicated early response systems important. Specialists from the Korean Society of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and pediatric rapid response team nurses will attend the event to share international operating cases and ways to improve RRSs in South Korea.

Key speakers include Christopher Parshuram, a professor at the University of Toronto in Canada who led the development of the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS), and Christopher Hobart, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh in the U.S. Adam Irwin, a professor at the University of Queensland in Australia who developed an AI-based early warning system for pediatric sepsis patients, will also give a presentation.

In South Korea, professors Kim Yoo-sun of Seoul National University Hospital and Park Yoo-kyung of Asan Medical Center will introduce domestic experience operating pediatric RRSs and the current state of early warning systems.

Vuno’s key products include “VUNO Med DeepCARS,” an AI medical device that analyzes patients’ vital signs to provide advance warning of risks such as cardiac arrest. DeepCARS analyzes vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and body temperature in patients hospitalized in general wards and provides medical staff with the risk of cardiac arrest occurring within 24 hours.

A Vuno official said, “We will share operational expertise from pediatric RRSs overseas and examples of using AI-based alert systems for pediatric patients” and added, “We will provide a forum for discussions aimed at advancing the pediatric patient safety system in South Korea.”
