Vieworks, a medical and industrial imaging solutions company, has unveiled its COF integrated solution capable of ultra-high-speed data transmission, targeting the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and AI semiconductor inspection markets.

Vieworks said on the 7th that it unveiled for the first time its COF (CoaXPress-over-Fiber) integrated solution, combining a camera, dedicated cable and frame grabber, at Vision 2026, the world’s largest machine vision exhibition, held in Stuttgart, Germany.

COF is a technology that transmits large volumes of images generated by cameras through optical fiber. It supports transmission speeds of 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) per channel and can transmit data over distances of up to 10 kilometers, making it suitable for large production lines and high-speed inspection processes.

Vieworks has previously focused its COF business on camera products, but this time expanded its offering to include dedicated cables and frame grabbers. The strategy is designed to reduce the burden on customers of configuring individual pieces of equipment separately and provide all the equipment needed to build an inspection system in a single package.

As the HBM and AI semiconductor markets expand, demand is also growing for rapid processing of high-resolution images during semiconductor manufacturing. In particular, as inspection targets become larger and more densely integrated, interface technologies capable of transmitting captured data without delay are becoming increasingly important, alongside camera resolution.

“Demand for high-resolution, ultra-high-speed imaging is growing rapidly with the expansion of the HBM and large-area AI semiconductor markets,” a Vieworks representative said. “Our goal is to provide an integrated solution that goes beyond cameras to encompass the data transmission infrastructure as well.”

Vieworks also showcased 25 industrial camera models and six imaging solutions at the exhibition, in addition to its COF solution.

In particular, the company introduced imaging technologies using various wavelength bands, including ultraviolet (UV), near-infrared (NIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR). The technologies can capture material properties and microscopic defects that are difficult to identify using visible light, making them suitable for applications such as semiconductor wafer and electronic component inspection.

Vieworks also showcased its existing industrial camera lineup. Its area-scan cameras support resolutions ranging from 400,000 pixels to 1.152 billion pixels, while the VZ series uses various interfaces, including Gigabit Ethernet (GigE), 2.5GigE and USB 3.0.

At the exhibition, Vieworks demonstrated high-resolution wafer inspection, inspection using multiple cameras and conveyor-based line-scan inspection.

Meanwhile, Vieworks is an imaging solutions company specializing in medical and industrial applications. Founded in 1999, it develops and sells X-ray detectors for medical and industrial applications, industrial cameras and bio-diagnostic equipment.

For more than 25 years, the company has focused on research and development in imaging technologies, including medical image processing, optical signal processing and image sensors. Through these efforts, Vieworks has established itself as an imaging solutions specialist by introducing differentiated technologies, including the world’s first commercialization of Automatic Exposure Detection (AED) technology and the development of hybrid Time Delayed Integration (TDI) sensors.

The company has also established subsidiaries in Europe, the United States, China and Taiwan and is active in global markets. In South Korea, it is also pursuing its goal of becoming a world-leading imaging solutions company, including through an investment of approximately $38.7 million in new facilities at the Jeongnam General Industrial Complex in Hwaseong.
