Wontech has secured approval for its laser medical device, Pastelle Pro, in Japan, accelerating its entry into the world’s fourth-largest beauty treatment market.

The company announced on Thursday that Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) approved the Pastelle Pro on October 8 as a laser surgical device for tissue incision, destruction, and removal.

The Pastelle Pro is a medical device that utilizes Nd:YAG laser and pigment laser technology for treating pigmented lesions, skin toning, and tattoo removal. This approval provides Wontech with a foundation to launch official marketing and sales activities in Japan.

Japan is considered the world’s fourth-largest beauty treatment market. According to a survey released last month by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Japan recorded approximately 2.05 million beauty treatment procedures last year, with about 1.62 million being non-surgical treatments such as lasers and injections.

Notably, a survey from a Japanese cosmetic medical platform revealed that melasma and freckles have been the most searched skin concerns for four consecutive years, indicating a strong interest in pigment treatments.

The Pastelle Pro supports two wavelengths of 1064 nm and 532 nm and offers four treatment modes to address various pigmented lesions. It features multi-pulse technology that delivers laser treatments in 2 to 4 sessions, reducing skin irritation while maintaining treatment effectiveness.

Pigment treatment lasers work by delivering energy at specific wavelengths to melanin pigments in the skin, improving pigmented lesions. The appropriate wavelength and treatment method can vary based on the depth and type of pigment, as well as the patient’s skin condition, making it crucial for medical professionals to choose the right equipment for treatment purposes.

Prior to Japan, the Pastelle Pro received approvals in six countries, including the United States, Brazil, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Taiwan.

Following this approval, Wontech plans to expand product presentations and academic activities aimed at local medical professionals and establish a sales network focused on major dermatology and cosmetic clinics.

The company aims to increase its market share by expanding its product line, including the previously certified Velastar laser equipment for vascular, hair removal, and regenerative treatments in Japan.

A Wontech representative stated that with the Pastelle Pro receiving approval in Japan, a market with high regulatory barriers, it can officially enter the pigment treatment market. It will strengthen the connections with Japanese medical professionals to translate this into tangible sales results and develop Japan into a core overseas market for Wontech.
