Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has etched his name in the record books, securing a spot in the Top 10 for the longest consecutive reign as world No. 1.
The latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings update reveals Sinner’s impressive 81-week stint at the pinnacle, catapulting him into the elite group of players with the most enduring reigns at the top.
After a setback in last year’s U.S. Open final against his rival Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, Sinner briefly lost his crown. However, he swiftly reclaimed it by toppling Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo ATP Masters 1000 final, kicking off this year’s clay court season in style.
This victory not only sealed Sinner’s Career Golden Masters – a feat of winning all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments – but also ignited a 15-week dominance streak on the ATP Tour, solidifying his grip on the top spot.
Sinner’s reign has now surpassed Alcaraz’s 66-week record and outshone tennis legends like Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Sweden’s Stefan Edberg.
Fresh off his second consecutive Wimbledon triumph, Sinner’s supremacy shows no signs of waning. He currently boasts a commanding 4,970-point lead over world No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany.
Looking ahead, Sinner has set his sights on overtaking former champions Andre Agassi (101 weeks) and Björn Borg (109 weeks). Given his current trajectory, surpassing these icons seems well within reach.
The ATP has noted that at just 24, Sinner’s game displays a maturity that puts him shoulder to shoulder with tennis’s greatest legends.
At the top of this illustrious list stands Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, who has held the No. 1 ranking for an astounding 428 weeks.
