The Lewis Nash Trio is set to honor Oscar Peterson’s centennial with performances on August 14 at 8:00 p.m. (Korean time) at Seoul’s Prugio Art Hall and August 15 at 8:00 p.m. (Korean time) at Daegu’s Various Jazz Club. Renowned drummer Lewis Nash will share the stage with pianist Kang Jae-hoon and bassist Kim Dae-ho.
Oscar Peterson, a legendary pianist, left an indelible mark on jazz history. This concert series serves as a domestic tribute to his enduring legacy. Nash’s involvement is particularly poignant, given his tenure in Peterson’s later ensemble, where he forged a deep musical connection with the jazz icon.
Nash, born in 1958, boasts an impressive discography, having contributed to over 500 recordings. His collaborations read like a who’s who of jazz, including luminaries such as Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Hank Jones, and Ron Carter.
The setlist will primarily feature tracks from Oscar Peterson’s acclaimed albums We Get Request and Night Train, offering audiences a nostalgic journey through the pianist’s repertoire.
Since 2024, Nash has made annual pilgrimages to Korea, engaging in performances and recording sessions with local talents. This ongoing cultural exchange led to his musical partnership with Kang Jae-hoon and Kim Dae-ho. Impressed by their synergy, Nash handpicked Kang and Kim as his rhythm section, with Kang on piano and Kim on bass, forming this dynamic trio.
