Spider-Man has once again proven its box office prowess. The latest installment in the franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (directed by Destin Daniel Cretton), shattered records by drawing in a staggering 680,000 viewers on its opening day, marking a triumphant return after a five-year hiatus.

The Integrated Ticketing System reported on Thursday that Spider-Man: Brand New Day attracted an impressive 687,822 moviegoers on its July 29 debut. The total audience count has already reached 689,076.

This figure eclipses the opening day performance of Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), which drew 359,031 viewers, by approximately 320,000. It also surpassed the first-day numbers of Frozen II (2019), which brought in 606,618 viewers.

Brand New Day has set the bar for opening performances among films released in the past two years. It outpaced Zootopia 2, which attracted 309,168 viewers in 2025, and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which pulled in 517,922 on its opening day.

Tom Holland’s latest outing as the web-slinger has also topped the opening records of his previous Spider-Man films. It surpassed the first-day figures of Spider-Man: Homecoming (540,000), Spider-Man: Far From Home (670,000), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (630,000).

As of 9:30 a.m. (Korean time) on Thursday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day boasted a real-time reservation rate of 68.1%, with advance ticket sales hitting 751,077. These early indicators suggest a record-breaking summer run at the box office.

This latest entry in the franchise picks up five years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. It follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as he confronts a mysterious enemy who remembers his secret identity, while also grappling with uncontrollable powers resulting from DNA mutations. The action-packed blockbuster sees Parker facing new threats to protect his loved ones.

Since joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man has captivated South Korean audiences. Spider-Man: Homecoming drew 7.25 million viewers in 2017, Spider-Man: Far From Home attracted 8.02 million in 2019, and Spider-Man: No Way Home brought in 7.55 million, totaling an impressive 22.82 million viewers across all three films in South Korea.

Currently, the film holds a strong 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audience ratings on CGV Egg stand at an impressive 96%. With both critics and moviegoers responding positively, all eyes are on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to see if it can swing past its predecessors’ box office achievements.
