Mauricio Pochettino has inked a new deal with the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, extending his tenure as head coach through 2030.
The U.S. Soccer Federation announced on Monday that they had reached an agreement with Pochettino for a four-year contract extension.
Pochettino, the Argentine tactician, is a familiar face to Korean soccer fans, having previously coached Son Heung-min (now with LA FC). He recruited and mentored Son during his stint with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League from 2014 to 2019.
After his time at Spurs, Pochettino had spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea before taking the reins of the U.S. national team in 2024. In his first year at the helm, he guided the U.S. to a second-place finish in the 2025 The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup.
At the 2026 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup co-hosted by North America, which wrapped up last month, Pochettino’s squad set new benchmarks for U.S. soccer. They notched a record three wins in a single tournament and clinched their first knockout stage victory since 2002, advancing to the round of 16.
Reflecting on his tenure, Pochettino said that these past two years leading the U.S. team have shown me the immense potential it has to grow even stronger. The incredible support from the fans during the World Cup has only reinforced his belief in the bright future of American soccer. His goal is to leave a lasting positive impact on U.S. soccer, one that goes beyond just results on the field.
U.S. Soccer Federation President Cindy Parlow Cone expressed her confidence in Pochettino, stating that Mauricio has cultivated a culture of mutual trust among the players and faith in the process and team. It saw the squad develop, compete, and perform admirably on the world’s biggest stage during the World Cup. The coaching staff responsible for fostering this environment is an invaluable asset that must continue to guide both the current and future U.S. men’s national teams.
With this contract extension, the U.S. Soccer Federation aims to broaden Pochettino’s influence beyond just the national team. They plan to tap into his expertise to enhance the overall competitiveness of U.S. soccer, including youth development programs, coaching education initiatives, and partnerships with professional leagues.
