Lee Jung-hoo (28, San Francisco Giants) kept his hot bat going with a double.
On Wednesday, Lee started as the No. 2 hitter and right fielder in an away game against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. He went 1-for-5 at the plate.
While Lee couldn’t replicate his two-homer performance from the previous day, he’s maintained his hitting streak, collecting hits in all four games he’s played in August. His season batting average dipped slightly to .305.
In the first inning, Lee made solid contact but grounded out to first base.
Lee’s hit came in his second at-bat. With one out and nobody on in the third, he faced Texas southpaw Mackenzie Gore. On a 1-2 count, Lee ripped Gore’s 96-mph (about 154.5 km/h) fastball down the left-field line for a double, his 26th of the season.
However, he was stranded there as his teammates failed to drive him in.
Lee grounded out to second in his third at-bat in the fifth and flied out to center in the seventh.
Trailing 4-2 in the ninth, the Giants mounted a comeback. With one out and runners on second and third, pinch-hitter Bryce Eldridge delivered a clutch two-run single to tie the game.
Lee came up with two outs and a runner on first but couldn’t keep the rally going, flying out to left.
The Giants’ hopes were dashed in the bottom of the ninth when Ezequiel Duran hit a walk-off single with two outs and runners on first and second, handing San Francisco a 5-4 loss. The defeat drops the Giants to 48-66, still fourth in the NL West.
Texas snapped a six-game skid, improving to 56-58 on the season.
