Girls’ Generation members Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung are set to make their official debut as the subunit Hyorisu.
SM Entertainment announced on Wednesday that the first single from Girls’ Generation-Hyorisu (HRS) will drop in the third quarter of this year.
Hyorisu, formed earlier this year through Hyoyeon’s Level Up project, consists of Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung. Hyoyeon was recently voted as the main vocalist. The group’s name cleverly combines one syllable from each member’s name, similar to the naming convention of TTS (Taeyeon, Tiffany, Seohyun).
The trio has been generating buzz by documenting their girl group preparation process, including center selection, main vocal auditions, and debut team formation. They recently met with the production team of MBC’s Show! Music Core, hinting at their imminent debut.
In May, the group appeared on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block. Hyoyeon humorously remarked that it started this as a joke, but she never imagined it’d end up on You Quiz. She also playfully expressed her desire to take on Taeyeon’s role in TTS, saying that Taeyeon has always been in a league of her own and doesn’t pay attention to them. She was hoping to get a rise out of her, but her lack of reaction ended up getting to me instead.
The Hyorisu combination has captured public interest due to the members’ candid and relatable personalities. Their playful banter, fierce competition for the center position, and unique comedic chemistry have endeared them to fans.
Notably, despite Yuri and Sooyoung having left SM Entertainment, they continue to show strong affection for Girls’ Generation, further winning over fans. Yuri recently parted ways with SM after a 19-year partnership. On July 31, SM stated that after thorough discussions with Kwon Yuri, it has mutually agreed to conclude the 19-year journey together, effective August 31. Sooyoung is currently signed with People Entertainment.
Amidst these changes, the members have confirmed their activities as Hyorisu. As they prepare for their unit debut in the third quarter, fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see what kind of music they’ll bring to the table and how they’ll maintain their momentum.
