K-pop sensation ILLIT strikes gold again in Japan with back-to-back certifications.

Belift Lab, the group’s agency, announced on the 11th that the Japan Record Association has awarded ILLIT (YoonA, MinJu, MoKa, WonHee, IroHa) a Gold Disc certification for their sophomore Japanese single, “I Got Your Back.” The album surpassed 100,000 shipments as of July, an impressive feat achieved just three days after its July 29 release.

The Japan Record Association issues monthly certifications based on cumulative shipments, with Gold (100,000 copies), Platinum (250,000 copies), and Double Platinum (500,000 copies) designations. This marks ILLIT’s second consecutive Gold Disc for a Japanese release, following their debut single “Toki Yo Tomare” from September last year, solidifying their growing popularity in the Japanese market.

The single’s success continued into its second week, topping the Oricon Daily Single Ranking on August 8. “I Got Your Back” gained traction rapidly after the group’s appearances on local music shows and live performances.

“I Got Your Back” resonates with young listeners, chronicling the growth of girls navigating life’s challenges. The single features the title track, its Korean version, and “Sunday Morning,” the opening theme for the anime “Princess Time: It’s Torture,” which was released in January.

Since their September 2023 debut, ILLIT has been steadily climbing the charts with hits like “Magnetic,” “Not Cute Anymore,” and “It’s Me,” cementing their status as rising stars in the K-pop scene.
