Song Sung-mun (San Diego Padres) has been demoted to the minor leagues after seeing limited playing time recently.
The San Diego organization announced on Tuesday that they have sent Song down to their Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas.
The Padres signed outfielder Dustin Harris to fill Song’s spot on the roster.
Song’s role on the team had diminished, as he sat out the last three games.
Notably, he only started four games in August and managed just two hits during that stretch.
Prior to his demotion, Song appeared in 62 games, hitting .202 with 1 home run, 15 run batted ins (RBIs), 19 runs scored, and a .568 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
Given his limited opportunities and inability to make an impact, Song will need to shine in Triple-A to earn another shot at the big leagues.
However, some believe his defensive skills and base-running abilities could lead to another opportunity in the near future.
Sports Illustrated suggests Song could return to the majors before the postseason, potentially serving as a defensive replacement or pinch runner during October baseball.
