Veteran actress Youn Yuh Jung graced the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards with her presence.
On Monday, Youn participated in a photo call at the star-studded ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The acclaimed actress turned heads on the red carpet, donning an elegant all-white ensemble adorned with intricate embellishments. Her radiant smile and poised demeanor captivated onlookers.
Youn, who starred in the Netflix series “Beef” Season 2, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Despite the nod, she didn’t take home the trophy. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) announced on the 9th that Linda Cardellini from HBO’s “Fool Me Once” clinched the win in this category.
The Emmy Awards are split into two main events: the Primetime Emmys, which honor top-tier acting and directing achievements in limited series and dramas, and the Creative Arts Emmys, recognizing behind-the-scenes talent. The term Emmys typically refers to the Primetime ceremony.
This year marks a shift in the awards structure. Previously, the Creative Arts Emmys preceded the Primetime event by a week. Now, certain categories – including Supporting Actor/Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, and Guest Actor in Comedy and Drama Series – are part of the new “Emmy Night.” This two-day event, held on September 5 and 6, was pre-recorded and aired on September 13.
“Beef” Season 2 racked up an impressive array of nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series, Lead Actor (Oscar Isaac), Lead Actress (Carey Mulligan), Supporting Actor (Charles Melton), Supporting Actress (Youn Yuh Jung), Directing, Writing, Casting, Cinematography, and Costume Design.
The series, helmed by Korean-American director Lee Sung-jin, debuted its eight-episode run in April. It follows a young couple who witness a shocking confrontation between their boss and his wife at an exclusive country club. The plot thickens as a high-stakes game of manipulation unfolds between the couples and the club’s owner, a Korean billionaire. Youn portrays Chairman Park, the newly minted owner of the prestigious establishment.
