
LS Eco Energy is ramping up its efforts to penetrate the North American power distribution market by strengthening its partnership with Gaon Cable’s U.S. subsidiary.
The company announced on Tuesday that it recently supplied megavolt (MV) underground cables to a solar power facility in the U.S.
MV underground cables typically transmit electricity at 1 to 35 kilovolts (kV) and are buried for power transmission and distribution. These cables are commonly used in urban power grids, industrial parks, and data centers. They offer advantages over overhead lines, including reduced environmental impact and improved urban aesthetics.
This supply agreement was facilitated through a contract between LSCUS, Gaon Cable’s U.S. subsidiary, and local customers. The products were manufactured by LS VINA, LS Eco Energy’s production facility in Vietnam.
The cables will be used to aggregate electricity generated within the solar power facility and transmit it to the substation. In the U.S., the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and renewable energy investments is driving up demand for both power generation facilities and the distribution infrastructure that connects them.
An LS Eco Energy spokesperson explained that with the surge in demand for MV cables in the U.S., LSCUS is more than doubling its local production capacity. It’s also leveraging LS VINA’s production capabilities to meet this rapidly growing demand.
Through its collaboration with Gaon Cable, LS Eco Energy aims to continue expanding its distribution cable supply in the U.S. market for new power infrastructure, particularly in solar power facilities.
Sang-ho Lee, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LS Eco Energy, stated that Gaon Cable is enhancing its order fulfillment capabilities by integrating local production with the subsidiary’s manufacturing base, while LS Eco Energy is boosting its exports to North America. It plans to strengthen the market presence in North America by capitalizing on the synergies between the subsidiaries.
LS VINA’s MV cable exports to the U.S. are projected to grow by over 20% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, building on its track record of supplying ultra-high voltage cables in Europe and Singapore, the company recently obtained certification for 230 kV cables in the U.S. and is now pursuing opportunities in the local ultra-high voltage market.
