The Portuguese national team, sans Cristiano Ronaldo, continued their winning streak by defeating Denmark for their third consecutive victory.
On Friday, Portugal outscored Norway 4-2 in the third round of Group A in the 2026-27 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Nations League at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Despite the unsettling news of Ronaldo’s exclusion from the starting lineup for two straight games, Portugal managed to net four goals and secure the win. Gonçalo Ramos, who stepped up to lead the attack in Ronaldo’s absence, contributed a goal and an assist, marking his second consecutive game on the scoresheet.
Coach Jorge Jesus, who took charge of Portugal following the 2026 North American World Cup, has now guided the team to three consecutive victories in the Nations League.
Portugal drew first blood in the 13th minute when João Cancelo, momentarily joining the attack, dribbled past defenders and executed a slick one-two with Ramos before finding the net.
Although Denmark equalized through Mikkel Damsgaard in the 23rd minute, Portugal quickly regained the lead just two minutes later. Bruno Fernandes threaded a forward pass to Ramos, who coolly slotted home.
Denmark managed to level the score again in the 8th minute of the second half courtesy of Rasmus Hojlund, but their joy was short-lived.
Portugal surged ahead once more in the 22nd minute of the second half with a header from Vitinha. João Félix then put the game to bed with a goal in the 42nd minute of the second half.
In other Nations League action, Germany dominated Serbia 2-0 on home turf in Group A.
Following their Round of 32 exit in the North American World Cup, Germany brought in Jürgen Klopp as their new head coach. After drawing 1-1 with the Netherlands and losing 0-1 to Greece, Klopp’s squad finally tasted victory in their third outing.
Germany set the tone early, controlling possession and taking the lead through Tom Bischof. The young midfielder pounced on the rebound after Florian Wirtz’s initial shot struck the woodwork.
Maintaining their attacking momentum, Germany sealed the deal with Wirtz finding the net in the 16th minute of the second half.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands, also in Germany’s group, battled to a 2-2 draw away to Greece.
Despite falling behind by two goals in the first half, the Dutch fought back with Virgil van Dijk scoring in the 14th minute of the second half, followed by Tijjani Reijnders’ equalizer in the 44th minute of the second half.
