Reports have surfaced that Um Ji-sung, a South Korean striker for Swansea City, was allegedly subjected to racist abuse during an English soccer match. The game was suspended for approximately seven minutes due to the incident, with both clubs condemning the behavior and police launching an investigation to identify those responsible.

According to British media outlets, including The Independent, Swansea City reported to match officials that racist remarks were directed at Um during their 2026-27 English Championship fixture against Millwall at The Den in London on Wednesday.

Um, who was on the bench as a substitute at the time, was warming up along the touchline when the alleged incident occurred. The referee halted play midway through the second half after receiving reports of racist comments.

Match officials consulted with both team managers and stadium personnel to assess the situation.

An announcement was made over the stadium’s public address system, informing spectators that reports of racist chanting had been received. The match resumed after a seven-minute delay.

Um did not enter the game and watched from the sidelines as his team secured a 1-0 victory.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos confirmed after the match that Um was the target of the alleged abuse.

In an official statement, Swansea City strongly condemned racism and discrimination in all forms, declaring that it stands united with Um Ji-sung and offer him the unwavering support and solidarity.

Millwall also acknowledged the allegations and stated they are cooperating with authorities to investigate the matter. Millwall manager Alex Neil emphasized that such behavior is completely unacceptable.

Law enforcement is reportedly reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to identify those involved. However, specific details about the incident and the identities of the alleged perpetrators have not yet been confirmed.
