Shuttlecock sensation An Se-young (Samsung Life) made a triumphant return to international competition following the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. With a commanding victory in her Denmark Open opener, An set her sights on clinching her ninth title of the season.

The world No. 1 dominated her round of 32 match at the 2026 Badminton World Federation (BWF) Denmark Open, held at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense. An dispatched Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova (world No. 41) in straight sets, 21-13, 21-11, on Wednesday.

An needed just 36 minutes to secure the win.

This victory improved An’s impressive season record to 57-1. She remains undefeated since her lone loss to China’s Wang Zhi in the All England Open finals back in March.

The win also keeps An on track for her ninth title of the season as she looks to defend her crown. An’s dominant run includes eight tournament victories, starting with the Malaysia Open in January and most recently at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games last month.

An’s superior skills were on full display. After a 2-2 tie early in the first game, she reeled off four straight points to seize control. Maintaining her advantage throughout, An closed out the opener with a three-point run from 18-13.

The second game followed a similar script. An jumped out to an early lead and then rattled off five consecutive points from 11-7 to put the match out of reach.

An will face Denmark’s own Line Christophersen (world No. 8) in the round of 16.
