LAFC, with Son Heung-min playing the entire match, extended their unbeaten run to four games after drawing with rivals LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS).
LAFC drew 2-2 with LA Galaxy in a home match on the 26th in the 32nd round of the 2026 MLS season at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
LAFC extended their unbeaten league run to four matches, with one win and three draws, bringing their record to 12 wins, 11 draws and nine losses. They sit sixth in the standings with 47 points.
In MLS, the top seven teams in each conference, 14 teams in total, qualify directly for the MLS Cup playoffs. Teams finishing eighth and ninth in each conference compete in a playoff round, with the two winners claiming the final spots in the 16-team knockout stage.
Son, who recorded one goal and two assists against Austin on the 15th, has now gone scoreless in two consecutive matches. Playing 90 minutes as an attacking midfielder, he registered three shots and four key passes but did not record a goal or assist.
Son has recorded nine goals and 21 assists across all competitions this season, including seven goals and 14 assists in 30 MLS appearances and two goals and seven assists in 11 matches in the Leagues Cup and CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The match was an end-to-end contest.
In the 28th minute, Denis Bouanga’s shot struck the post, and Son followed up to put the ball into the net. However, the goal was disallowed after a video review ruled that an offside offense had occurred earlier in the play.
The decision was contentious enough to prompt strong protests from Son and the LAFC bench.
After missing the golden opportunity, LAFC conceded almost immediately. In the 34th minute, during a counterattack, Robert Taylor delivered a low, fast cross from the right flank, which Joseph Paintsil converted to give LA Galaxy the lead.
LA Galaxy capitalized on their momentum in the sixth minute of the second half, when Paintsil scored his second goal of the match to make it 2-0.
LAFC began to take control only after Denis Bouanga pulled one back in the eighth minute of the second half, just two minutes later. As LA Galaxy’s midfield began to tire and leave spaces in the middle of the second half, LAFC won nearly every second ball.
LAFC completed their comeback with an equalizer amid sustained pressure. In the 17th minute of the second half, Son sent a cross in from the left. After an opposing player failed to make clean contact in a scramble, Leo Baltha scored with a shot aimed between the goalkeeper’s legs.
However, the cross deflected off an opposing defender, so Son was not credited with an assist.
LAFC pushed for a winner, but Bouanga missed a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper in stoppage time, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
