Brad Pitt’s latest film Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer, has once again dethroned Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island, directed by Kei Oikawa, reclaiming the top spot at the box office.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, Heart of the Beast attracted 19,383 viewers on Monday, securing the number one position. The film’s total audience has now reached 236,101.

Heart of the Beast is a gripping adventure survival drama that follows James (played by Brad Pitt), a former Army Special Forces operative, and his retired military dog Odin. The duo finds themselves in a desperate struggle for survival against relentless threats after a plane crash strands them in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness.

Heart of the Beast initially surprised industry watchers by climbing to the top spot on October 29, its second day of release, overtaking Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island. However, its reign was short-lived, as it lost the lead back to Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island just one day later on October 30. While Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island maintained its dominance over the weekend, the tide turned again on Monday, a weekday, when Heart of the Beast reclaimed the number one position.

Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island secured the second place with 15,159 viewers, bringing its impressive total audience to 2,599,014.

Rounding out the top five for the day were The Assassin(s) in third place with 5,163 viewers, Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng in fourth with 4,847 viewers, and Attack on Titan: Crimson Bow and Arrow in fifth with 4,075 viewers. The cumulative audiences for these three films stand at 3,453,120, 76,615, and 76,399, respectively.
