Kim Jong Un Calls Russia a ‘Brother Nation’ in Putin Shout-Out

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, marking Russia Day.

The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on its front page that Kim conveyed to President Putin that the traditional friendship between the two nations has been strengthened, forged in the blood of their soldiers during the just struggle to defend Russia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, evolving into an exemplary alliance and comradeship that cannot be broken.

Kim referred to Russia as a brotherly nation and emphasized that it is the unwavering resolve of himself and the government to continuously advance their relationship, which has been forged and tested through historical trials and challenges, into a new era of comprehensive cooperation.

Page 3 reported that Galma Station, a key transportation hub, has completed renovations ahead of this month’s opening of the Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist zone in Gangwon Province. The completion ceremony was held the previous day. The paper noted that with rationally organized facilities, including waiting areas and information desks, the station can now offer high-level convenience to visitors in the coastal tourist zone.

Page 2 covered a reception hosted by Aleksandr Matsegora, the Russian Ambassador to North Korea, on Wednesday at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club, celebrating Russia’s National Day. Attendees included Foreign Economic Minister Yun Jong Ho and Vice Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Jong Gyu. The Russian Consulate General in Chongjin also held a separate reception.

Page 4 reported on the transformation of central Pohang in Chongjin. It stated that alongside the Chongjin Theater and Gyeongseong Dangogi Restaurant, the new Three Revolution Exhibition has been erected. According to the article, the Flower Park now boasts high-quality trees and flowering shrubs, creating a unique landscape.

Page 5 highlighted geological features in the Baekdu Mountain Global Geopark, including the mushroom-shaped rock formations at Janggunbong, Yongma Rock, and Cheongun Rock. It also mentioned that the Central Art Creation Studio is producing works depicting local industrial factory openings and new production lines.

Page 6 reflected on Russia’s National Day, stating that North Korean people sincerely celebrate the victories of the Russian people as if they were their own and wholeheartedly wish for greater achievements in Russia’s pursuit of strength and prosperity.
