Artificial intelligence (AI) analysis of North Korean broadcasts reveals that Kim Jong Un’s daughter, Kim Ju Ae, appeared on screen for more than 200 days each year. The Nikkei reported on Tuesday that AI facial recognition technology showed her monthly screen time nearly matching that of Kim Jong Un himself.

The study, conducted by the Nikkei, examined 14,115 hours of Korean Central Television footage from KCNAWatch.org, operated by Korea Risk Group. Results indicate Kim Ju Ae has been on screen for more than 600 days since her public debut in November 2022. The footage highlights her privileged status, with Kim Jong Un personally escorting her and Kim Yo Jong, the party’s deputy director, guiding her at military events.

In contrast, Kim’s wife, Ri Sol Ju, received less prominence during New Year celebrations and other ceremonies. Notably, captions praising Kim Jong Un as the Great Leader often appeared alongside images of Kim Ju Ae. A Japanese analyst of North Korean media suggested this could be interpreted as a signal of her potential successor status.

Kim Ju Ae’s public engagements totaled 41 confirmed appearances, including 25 military-related events. Her activities spanned various sectors, from military parades to inspections of civilian infrastructure.

Key figures frequently seen with Kim Ju Ae include Ri Sol Ju, Kim Yo Jong, Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, and close aide Hyun Song Wol. Choe Son Hui’s presence at events outside her diplomatic purview, such as military factory tours and naval ceremonies, has led experts to speculate on her potential role as a mentor for Kim Ju Ae in international affairs.
