On Wednesday, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Kevin Kim visited the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a one-hour meeting with Jeong Yeon-du, South Korea’s chief negotiator for North Korean nuclear talks.

As Kim left the building after the meeting, he sidestepped reporters’ questions about whether they had discussed the potential launch of a U.S.-South Korea task force on North Korea policy.

Instead, Kim emphasized that the U.S. and South Korea are closely coordinating on all issues, expressing his satisfaction with their productive discussions.

He further noted that the two countries maintain a robust collaborative framework on all matters concerning North Korea.

However, Kim refrained from commenting on whether he had voiced any concerns about President Lee Jae Myung’s recent remarks regarding a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
