Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, conveyed in a reply to Chinese President Xi Jinping that both nations should enhance their cooperation in the future.

On Tuesday, the front page of Rodong Sinmun, the Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, published the full text of Kim’s response sent to President Xi on Monday. This reply was in response to Xi’s earlier congratulatory letter on Kim’s reappointment as General Secretary at the 9th Party Congress.

In his response, Kim stated that he expresses his deep gratitude to the General Secretary for sending a warm congratulatory message regarding his re-election as the Party’s General Secretary at the 9th Party Congress.

He further emphasized that it is the unwavering position of the Party and the government of the Republic to continue strengthening and developing the traditional North Korea-China friendship in line with the new demands of the era and the aspirations of the two peoples. Kim believes that the cooperation between the two parties and countries will become even closer as it advances the shared socialist cause.

On February 23, President Xi had sent a congratulatory message on Kim’s reappointment, stating that China and North Korea are friendly socialist neighbors who support each other. Xi also reaffirmed that maintaining, strengthening, and developing China-North Korea relations remains the consistent policy of the Chinese Communist Party and government.
