Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party, following Kim’s reelection as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission. In response, Kim reaffirmed the traditional friendship between North Korea and China.

North Korea’s state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on its front page on March 28 that Kim, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party, had sent a reply to Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President.

In his response, Kim expressed deep gratitude for Xi’s warm congratulations on his reelection as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission during the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly.

Kim noted that through his message, he felt the unwavering support and friendship, the Chinese Party, and government towards him, the Party, and the government.

Referencing the summit between North Korean and Chinese leaders last September, Kim stated that he’s pleased that the traditional relationship is advancing to new heights, in line with the important agreements reached during the meeting, reflecting the aspirations of the two Parties and peoples.

He emphasized that the Party and the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are resolute in the commitment to further deepen and develop the socialist-friendly cooperative relationship with China.

Kim also expressed confidence that the Chinese people would achieve new progress in their journey to build a fully modernized socialist nation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, with Xi Jinping at its core. He extended wishes for Xi’s good health and future success.

Previously, Xi had underscored the traditional friendship between North Korea and China, describing it as a precious shared asset, and affirmed a strong commitment to continuously developing bilateral relations.

On March 23, North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly, the equivalent of Congress in the U.S., reelected Kim as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission.
