The Democratic Party is set to hold a meeting on Friday with relevant standing committees, industry representatives, and agencies to discuss strategies in response to the Middle East situation and U.S. tariff negotiations.

They also plan to convene with the Financial Services Commission to review stock market response strategies in light of recent developments. The exact date for this meeting has not yet been confirmed.

According to sources within the party on Wednesday, the Democratic Party will host a meeting on Thursday morning at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building. This gathering will include Democratic Party members from various standing committees such as Foreign Affairs and Unification, Industry, Trade, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Finance and Economy Planning. Representatives from the Korea International Trade Association, Korea Trade Association, and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will also be in attendance.

Industry leaders from major corporations including Samsung, Hyundai Motor, LG, SK, GS, HD Hyundai, Hanwha, and HMM are expected to participate.

The meeting aims to comprehensively assess the potential impact of rising global tariffs and changes in U.S. trade policy on South Korea’s exports and industries, in collaboration with relevant National Assembly committees.

Democratic Party members from these committees will hear firsthand accounts of industry concerns and opinions to formulate appropriate responses at the legislative level.

The Korea International Trade Association, Korea Trade Association, and KOTRA plan to present risk assessments and forecasts based on corporate case studies and statistics, as well as explore potential support measures.

This discussion seeks to establish a foundation for a joint strategy among the government, National Assembly, and private sector to address complex economic challenges.

The party-government meeting with the Financial Services Commission, originally scheduled for Thursday morning at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building, has been postponed. A new date has not yet been set.

Expected attendees include party representatives such as Han Jung-ae, chair of the policy committee, Democratic Party members from the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, and members of the party’s Digital Asset Task Force (TF). Government representation is expected to include Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won.

During this meeting, participants plan to review the current stock market situation and response strategies, as well as discuss the proposed Digital Asset Basic Law.
