On Tuesday, President Lee Jae Myung held a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump during the high-level session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. This marks their third face-to-face meeting since Lee took office.
National Security Advisor Wi Sung-lac briefed the press, stating that President Lee and President Trump engaged in a 30-minute bilateral summit starting at 7:20 p.m. local time.
This encounter is the third between the two leaders since President Lee’s inauguration. Their previous meetings occurred in Washington, D.C. last August, followed by talks at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju in October, and at the Group of Seven (G7) summit in France this June.
According to the National Security Office, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the substantial progress made in discussions on strategic investment projects between South Korea and the U.S. The South Korean government has announced its decision to launch the construction of a gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Encinal, Texas, as the inaugural project under the 200 billion USD investment plan outlined in the South Korea-U.S. Joint Fact Sheet.
