LS ELECTRIC is commercializing a system that optimizes data center cooling equipment to maximize operational efficiency in collaboration with LS-SAUTER.

On Wednesday, LS ELECTRIC announced that it had completed the construction and verification of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based intelligent cooling control system for data centers in the Greater Seoul Area, in partnership with its subsidiary, LS-SAUTER.

The system developed by both companies uses AI to collect and analyze server load and heat distribution data in real-time. It automatically optimizes the control of cooling equipment by considering the data center’s structure, equipment configuration, and operational patterns.

This technology has significantly reduced unnecessary fan and chilled water usage, resulting in a total power consumption reduction of 24.6%. For a single 4.2 MW server room, this equates to savings of approximately 50 million KRW (around 33,000 USD) in annual electricity costs. The fully automated system, operating 24/7, is also expected to lead to additional cost savings through improved workforce efficiency.

In cases of potential anomalies during data center operations, such as localized overheating (hot spots) or cooling imbalances, the AI automatically adjusts air volume and chilled water operation conditions, helping to prevent major incidents like fires.

The AI-based cooling optimization technology validated through this demonstration will be integrated into LS ELECTRIC’s data center operations platform, Beyond X CUBE. LS-SAUTER has also completed the patent application for this technology.

Both companies plan to accelerate the expansion of their data center infrastructure business by securing a technological foundation that integrates power and cooling systems as core infrastructure for data centers through this cooling system demonstration.

A representative from LS ELECTRIC stated that as AI data centers expand, the importance of solutions that manage not only power infrastructure but also cooling systems in an integrated manner is growing. With the collaboration with LS-SAUTER, it has secured a customized power and cooling integration solution for data centers, and it plans to accelerate the expansion of the data center infrastructure business.
