Samsung Electronics said sales of large TVs measuring 75 inches or more surged by over 50% year-over-year following the launch of its new models, driven by growing consumer preference for bigger screens and an expanded lineup featuring tailored artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across both premium and entry-level segments.

The company plans to capitalize on the momentum by leveraging upcoming major global soccer events. Starting May 1, Samsung will run a two-month promotional campaign titled “Switch to AI Soccer Mode for the Decisive Moment.”

The promotion includes trade-in credits of up to about $150 and cashback offers worth around $225, aimed at stimulating demand in the sluggish home appliance market while reinforcing its leadership in the premium TV segment.

Large TVs ride ‘sports demand’ wave with 50% sales surge

According to industry sources, appliance makers are targeting replacement demand for large TVs in the second quarter, driven by global sporting events.

The industry expects that during major sports events, consumers are more likely to upgrade to larger screens to enhance the viewing experience.

Samsung responded quickly to this trend. In the roughly two weeks following the new product launch, sales of TVs 75 inches and larger rose by 50% compared with the same period last year.

Demand has been particularly strong among consumers seeking optimized viewing environments for dynamic sports broadcasts such as soccer and baseball. Despite overall softness in appliance demand due to inflation, spending polarization is evident, with consumers still willing to invest in premium large TVs that deliver a superior viewing experience.

Micro RGB expansion, synergy from ‘four key AI features’

A key driver behind the surge in sales is Samsung’s diversified lineup and the advanced AI technologies embedded in its 2026 models.

The company has significantly expanded its high-end “Micro RGB” lineup—previously limited to 115-inch models—to include 65-, 75-, 85-, and 100-inch options. It also introduced a new entry-level Mini LED lineup, broadening consumer choice.

AI-powered features designed to enhance audiovisual experiences have also gained popularity. The flagship “AI Soccer Mode Pro” analyzes live match footage in real time to sharpen grass textures and precisely track the ball’s movement.

The “AI Upscaling” feature converts lower-resolution content into high-quality images with improved detail, depth, and contrast in real time, boosting immersion.

Sound and usability have also been upgraded. “AI Sound Control Pro” separates different audio sources—such as commentary and crowd noise—allowing users to adjust them independently.

The conversational platform “Vision AI Companion” can respond contextually to queries such as “What was this team’s last match score?”

Up to about $375 in benefits as Samsung doubles down on market lead

Seeing strong demand, Samsung is rolling out aggressive trade-in promotions across both online and offline channels. The program offers benefits regardless of brand or model year when customers return an old TV, which is expected to accelerate replacement cycles.

Specifically, buyers of new ultra-large TVs of 83 inches or more will receive about $150 in Samsung membership points, while those purchasing 75- or 77-inch models will receive about $75.

Additionally, during May, the first 500 customers who purchase a 75-inch or larger model via Samsung’s website and leave a verified review will receive cashback of up to about $225.
