LG Display announced on Tuesday that it will showcase its groundbreaking third-generation Tandem organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology at the world’s largest display academic event in the U.S. This new technology significantly enhances durability and brightness.

The company will participate in the Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week 2026, held at the Los Angeles (LA) Convention Center through May 7. LG Display plans to unveil a diverse array of cutting-edge display solutions tailored for the artificial intelligence era.

The exhibition space is divided into three zones, focusing on tandem technology and innovative solutions. It will feature a comprehensive range of display panel products, from large screens to automotive applications.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the third-generation Tandem OLED, which is slated for commercialization. This advanced panel boasts an impressive 18% reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessors, while more than doubling its lifespan.

Developed specifically for automotive use, this cutting-edge product delivers a stunning brightness of 1,200 nits. It also demonstrates exceptional durability, maintaining pristine image quality even after 15,000 hours of operation at room temperature.

The research team achieved these improvements by optimizing the movement of holes and electrons to prevent degradation. They also incorporated a Deep Blue Dopant to enhance color purity and reproduction. In display technology, a dopant is a minute impurity intentionally added during manufacturing to fine-tune the electrical and optical properties of displays or semiconductors.

LG Display aims to commence mass production of this automotive panel within the year. The company plans to expand its application to various information technology devices in the future.

The exhibition will also showcase products designed for the emerging era of physical artificial intelligence (AI), where human-like robots and machines are becoming increasingly prevalent. LG Display will present its P-OLED technology for humanoid robots, which incorporates high-performance features from its automotive panels. This versatile technology can adapt to the diverse designs of different robot manufacturers and operates reliably across various external environments and temperatures.

The exhibition floor will be filled with numerous innovative products that highlight LG Display’s technological prowess. Visitors can marvel at the Primary red, green and blue (RGB) Tandem 2.0 television (TV) panel, which achieves a remarkable maximum brightness of 4,500 nits with an ultra-low reflectance rate of just 0.3%. Gaming enthusiasts will be impressed by the 27-inch panel boasting an unprecedented 720Hz refresh rate.

Also on display is a 27-inch monitor panel supporting 5K resolution and 220 Pixels Per Inch (PPI), designed to minimize color bleeding and other distortion phenomena. Higher PPI values indicate a denser pixel arrangement, resulting in superior screen precision and clarity.

Other notable exhibits include a 16-inch information technology (IT) product that extends battery life by approximately 2.3 hours compared to previous models, a 57-inch peer-to-peer (P2P) panel extending to the passenger seat for software-defined vehicle (SDV) environments, and a futuristic 32-inch Slidable OLED concept model that can be stored in the ceiling.

Commenting on these groundbreaking products, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Choi Young-seok stated that its unparalleled research and development (R&D) capabilities have enabled us to lead the world in OLED innovations. Moving forward, it will continue to prioritize our customers and solidify the position as a technology-centered company, maintaining the leadership in shaping the future of the display market.
