The artificial intelligence (AI)-powered eyewear, dubbed the Jennie Glasses, is set to make its official debut in the South Korean market.

Meta announced on Tuesday that it will launch its next-generation AI glasses, Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, in partnership with global eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica on May 25.

Since its global release, Ray-Ban Meta has emerged as a frontrunner in AI eyewear. The glasses boast an array of AI features, including navigation, powered by Meta’s AI technology. The AI assistant, based on Meta’s large language model (LLM) Muse Spark, offers both an Instant Mode for quick responses and a Deep Thinking Mode for more complex reasoning. The product hit South Korean shelves on May 13.

The buzz around these smart glasses has intensified, particularly after BLACKPINK’s Jennie was named a global ambassador. The initial Ray-Ban Meta release last fall led to product shortages in the U.S., delaying its international rollout.

The upcoming Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 will feature Ray-Ban’s iconic styles: Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner. These cutting-edge glasses offer up to 8 hours of battery life and sport a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera capable of capturing 3K ultra high definition (HD) photos and videos. They also come equipped with open-ear audio technology.

Users can activate voice commands with the wake phrase “Hey Meta,” enabling them to take photos, record videos, and access other features. Content captured can be seamlessly edited and shared through integration with Meta AI.

Ray-Ban Meta will be available with various lens options, including sunglasses, clear, polarized, and photochromic lenses. The company plans to introduce two additional eyewear styles in the future.

Oakley Meta will launch in two distinct styles: Vanguard and HSTN.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard combines Oakley’s renowned lens technology with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. It also features noise reduction capabilities to minimize wind interference during outdoor activities like running and cycling. These glasses boast IP67-rated water and dust resistance.

The Oakley Meta HSTN, designed as lifestyle AI eyewear, incorporates a 3K ultra HD camera and open-ear speakers.

All new AI glasses models are equipped with light-emitting diode (LED) indicators to notify bystanders when photos or videos are being recorded, addressing privacy concerns.

Prices for these high-tech glasses start at 690,000 KRW (approximately 456 USD).

Kim Jin-ah, Meta Korea’s representative, stated that Meta is pioneering personalized AI experiences for everyone. AI glasses represent the ideal device for real-time understanding of users’ contexts and situations. It’s excited for Korean consumers to join them in this new era of AI experiences.
