LG Uplus has spearheaded the creation of global benchmarks for assessing the autonomous operation of fixed-line subscriber networks. This standardization of evaluation criteria, which previously varied among telecom providers, now enables comparison and verification of network autonomy levels across different operators.
On Wednesday, LG Uplus announced its leading role in proposing and developing an evaluation framework for Autonomous Networks (AN) in Fixed Access Network Fault Management at the global telecom industry consortium TM Forum.
The framework, officially approved by TM Forum, is set to become the certification standard for AN levels in subscriber network domains.
Fixed-line subscriber networks directly link to customer-facing services like internet, IPTV, and Wi-Fi. While telecom companies have been pushing for automation to prevent outages and speed up recovery times, there was no standardized method to objectively assess these efforts. This lack of uniformity made it challenging to compare operational efficiency between providers or validate them against global standards.
The new evaluation framework allows global telecom companies to assess and benchmark their subscriber network autonomy levels using consistent criteria. These assessments can help identify areas for improvement and shape strategies for autonomous network operations.
Telecom equipment manufacturers can also leverage these standards to align their solution development with the autonomy levels demanded by telecom operators.
Park Sung-woo, Executive Vice President of the NW AX Group at LG Uplus, emphasized the significance of this framework. It provides a global benchmark for validating fixed-line subscriber network autonomy capabilities, which previously lacked objective assessment criteria, he said. It’s committed to ongoing collaboration with global telecom operators to advance autonomous network standardization and deliver network quality improvements that customers can truly appreciate.
LG Uplus is expanding its global partnerships while gaining recognition for its expertise in autonomous network standardization. At the Autonomous Network Leadership Forum during TM Forum’s DTW Ignite 2026 in June, LG Uplus was among 17 telecom operators awarded a total of 40 Autonomous Network Level Assessment Validation (ANLAV) certificates.
The company secured ANLAV certification alongside industry giants such as China Mobile, China Telecom, SoftBank, Rakuten Mobile, T-Mobile US, and Telefónica Brazil. ANLAV is TM Forum’s global evaluation system that objectively measures and validates the maturity of telecom operators’ autonomous networks.
