LG Display is accelerating its companywide AI transformation, known as AX, by developing non-developer employees with no coding skills into AI specialists through its “AX Squad” project, helping them build the ability to solve problems using AI.
The AX Squad is a companywide, execution-focused project in which employees from individual business units use AI tools to develop solutions to problems they encounter in their work or repetitive tasks, with AI experts from the AX group serving as coaches. The goal is to create highly practical solutions by pairing employees who understand their work problems most closely with experts familiar with AI tools.
According to LG Display on Sept. 13, the company has provided AX training programs, including vibe coding, to all employees since last year and built an in-house vibe coding agent called “HI-D CODE.” Vibe coding is a programming approach in which users describe an idea or desired outcome in natural language, like an everyday conversation, rather than writing code themselves, and generative AI creates executable code accordingly. This allows non-developers to create and use AI agents for their work.
LG Display expects the expansion of the AX Squad to help embed AI capabilities across its operations. The company has processed more than 4.5 million tasks cumulatively through the AX Squad. It has automated more than 190 AX projects, including a simplified defect-classification program in manufacturing, an optical simulation tool in development and an employee survey system in human resources.
Applications developed by employees through the AX Squad are shared on LG Display’s internal app marketplace, “HI-D Agent Hub,” where any employee can easily download them. HI-D Agent Hub was also developed directly by employees.
LG Display began formally pursuing its AX transformation last year, prioritizing its manufacturing and development organizations, which form the backbone of the technology-focused company. Starting in the second half of this year, it is also expanding AX transformation into non-manufacturing and non-development functions, including procurement and supply chain, customer support, finance and management, and sales and marketing.
An LG Display official said, “The AX Squad is a companywide AI innovation initiative in which employees who previously remained simply AI users participate directly from defining projects through execution,” adding, “We will accelerate our transformation into a technology-focused company through companywide work innovation and the integration of AI into our operations.”
