Google Cloud has partnered with OpenAI to integrate the GPT-6 series and the coding assistant Codex into its cloud platform.

This move allows enterprise customers to choose from Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and now OpenAI’s GPT models on Google Cloud.

On Thursday, Google Cloud and OpenAI announced plans to offer OpenAI’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) models and Codex-powered agent capabilities through Google Cloud’s Model Garden AI service.

Google Cloud will provide a comprehensive suite of over 200 proprietary, third-party, and open models, including closed large language models (LLMs) from three major AI companies, all on a single integrated enterprise AI platform.

The newly introduced models include GPT-6 Astra, optimized for complex coding tasks and scientific research; GPT 6.1 Sol, offering near-Astra performance for agent-based coding and professional tasks at a competitive price; and GPT 6.0 Luna, designed for efficient and cost-effective handling of everyday tasks.

These models are currently being rolled out as a private preview to select enterprise customers within Google Cloud, with full launch expected in the coming weeks.

On this integrated platform, businesses can choose or switch between models based on performance, latency, and cost-efficiency without being tied to specific cloud architectures or separate vendor contracts.

OpenAI models can be directly purchased through the Google Cloud Marketplace. Usage will be included in Google Cloud billing and deducted from existing cloud commitments. Cost-saving benefits (FSP) apply regardless of the model provider.

Google Cloud will maintain enterprise-grade security standards even for third-party and OpenAI models. Customer prompts and outputs will remain within data boundaries and won’t be used for training foundation models.

OpenAI models will operate on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure. Data transfers will occur only within Google Cloud’s secure environment, with plans to implement confidential computing technologies in the future.

Google Cloud also plans to offer OpenAI models in Gemini for Business and Google Anti-Gravity environments, expanding options for enterprise customers and developers.

Greg Brockman, President and Co-founder of OpenAI, stated that Google Cloud is the go-to platform for developers and businesses implementing AI. This partnership marks a crucial step in enabling customers to leverage OpenAI’s top-tier models and Codex in their AI development environments.

Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google Cloud, emphasized that it’s focused on offering customers a wide range of model choices, including OpenAI. This allows customers to select the best model for their needs, optimizing quality and reducing costs.

While OpenAI announced this expansion to Google Cloud, they clarified that Microsoft remains their primary cloud partner.
