HD Hyundai is partnering with U.S. AI defense firm Anduril Industries to develop advanced unmanned surface vehicles (USV).
The company announced on Friday that it had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Anduril to collaborate on USV development and market expansion.
Anduril, known for its cutting-edge AI technology, supplies a wide range of defense solutions to the U.S. Navy and Department of Defense, including mission control systems, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, unmanned underwater vehicles, and drones.
The partnership will combine HD Hyundai’s expertise in autonomous navigation with Anduril’s advanced autonomous mission execution technologies to develop next-generation USV.
HD Hyundai will contribute its AI-driven vessel autonomy solutions, including automated navigation, engine automation, and integrated safety systems, optimized for naval applications.
Meanwhile, Anduril will focus on developing an advanced autonomous mission execution system, enabling automated swarm control and coordinated mission execution for USV in combat environments.
Both companies expect that integrating autonomous vessel control with mission execution systems will establish the USV as a critical command and control hub for future naval operations.
HD Hyundai CEO Joo Won-Ho stated that their cutting-edge AI technology will drive the development of crew-reducing and fully unmanned ships. This innovation will be a game-changer in hybrid manned-unmanned naval capabilities and enhance global competitiveness in warship exports.
