North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party, during the latter’s visit to Pyongyang to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party’s founding. The two discussed future plans for developing their alliance.

On October 11, the official party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported that Kim had received Dmitry Medvedev on October 10. Medvedev, leading a delegation from the United Russia party, was in North Korea to mark the Workers’ Party’s 80th anniversary.

Kim emphasized the significance of the Russian delegation’s visit, stating that it demonstrated the firm support and solidarity of their party and people for North Korea’s just cause. He added that the visit would serve as a crucial opportunity to further invigorate and expand the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between the two nations, which has reached new heights.

The North Korean leader stressed the importance of ruling parties in strengthening political cooperation and creating a favorable environment for bilateral relations. He expressed hope for continued enhancement of inter-party cooperation and intensified exchanges to achieve the shared goals of safeguarding national interests and improving public welfare.

In response, Medvedev highlighted the bravery and sacrifice of Korean soldiers during the Kursk liberation operation. He stated that this demonstrated the strength of the brotherly ties, special trust, and the invincibility of the blood-forged alliance between the two countries. Medvedev pledged to actively work on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between both parties and nations.

During the meeting, Kim conveyed warm greetings to his closest comrade, Vladimir Putin. Following the talks, Kim hosted a luncheon for the Russian delegation.

Russian media reported that the delegation also included Vladimir Yakushev, Secretary of the United Russia party, and Alexander Kozlov, Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources.

Prior to this meeting, Kim had held talks with Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith on October 7, and on October 9, he met with Vietnam’s top leader, Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, as well as China’s second-ranking official, Premier Li Qiang.
