On Tuesday, Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, responded to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message, emphasizing the strengthening of cooperation between North Korea and China.
The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published Kim’s reply to Xi on its front page on Tuesday. This response addressed Xi’s congratulatory message celebrating Kim’s reappointment as General Secretary during last month’s 9th Party Congress. In his letter, Kim expressed deep gratitude for Xi’s warm congratulations, stating that the General Secretary’s message serves as a sign of support and encouragement for me and all members of the party.
Kim further emphasized that it is the unwavering position of the party and the government of the Republic to continue developing the traditional friendship between North Korea and China in line with the new demands of the times and the aspirations of the peoples. He added that he believes that cooperation between the two parties and countries in advancing the shared socialist cause will become even closer in the future.
On page 2, the newspaper highlighted the achievements in constructing residential buildings in Pyongyang’s Hwasong District, stating that the construction of 50,000 residential units in Pyongyang is the party’s most important promise to the people. It continued that this remarkable achievement, far exceeding the goals, demonstrates the true nature of the Workers’ Party of Korea, which holds the people in the highest regard.
Page 3 reported on the expanded meeting of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, noting that the meeting discussed issues related to thoroughly implementing the programmatic tasks presented at the 9th Party Congress and the Central Committee’s plenary session. The report emphasized that youth must shine in the vanguard of the grand transformation and development, responding to the party’s call with action. It must cultivate a large contingent of youth capable of answering that call.
On page 4, the newspaper introduced the new five-year plan presented at the 9th Party Congress, describing it as another milestone in the sacred struggle for the strengthening and development of our party and the victorious advancement of socialist construction. The article stated that during this new planning period, it will construct hundreds of thousands of residential units in both the capital and rural areas, with the goal for rural housing significantly expanded compared to previous periods.
Page 5 highlighted the importance of scientific and technological development, asserting that science and technology are the driving force of socialist construction and the main engine of national economic development. It continued that it must prioritize science and technology in all endeavors and continuously enhance their role to ensure the successful implementation of the new five-year plan.
