Hyundai Glovis has expanded its North American logistics operations by establishing major distribution hubs on both the East and West Coasts of the U.S. This strategic move is expected to enhance local logistics capabilities and increase supply chain flexibility across the country.
On Wednesday, Hyundai Glovis announced the sequential opening of a multi-functional logistics center in Los Angeles, California, and an integrated warehouse in Savannah, Georgia, during the first quarter.
This expansion is a proactive investment strategy to address the growing trend of local production in North America.
The LA logistics center covers approximately 12,000 square meters, equivalent to two football fields. Situated about 25 minutes by car from both Long Beach Port and the airport, it boasts an ideal location for integrated transportation operations linking sea and air logistics.
Through this hub, Hyundai Glovis plans to integrate various logistics services, including transloading, air transport, and warehousing and distribution (W&D), while bolstering its inland transportation capabilities through direct operations.
This is expected to significantly improve emergency cargo response times and enable more flexible cost management in the face of market fluctuations, ultimately enhancing the company’s competitiveness in customer service.
Furthermore, by developing logistics infrastructure in the western region, the company aims to establish an End-to-End (E2E) logistics service foundation, streamlining processes from storage to delivery. The center is poised to leverage air and sea transport connections to boost supply chain responsiveness.
This facility is set to become a pivotal hub overseeing integrated logistics operations in the West.
On the East Coast, Hyundai Glovis has constructed an integrated warehouse in Savannah, Georgia. This facility is strategically positioned to handle the increased cargo volumes resulting from the Hyundai Motor Group’s Meta Plant America (HMGMA) operations and to efficiently manage shipments from nearby non-affiliated clients.
The Savannah facility spans approximately 69,000 square meters, equivalent to ten football fields, and will function as a centralized logistics center for managing production and supply volumes.
Savannah is emerging as a critical logistics hub in the southeastern U.S., with rapid expansion of manufacturing and logistics infrastructure centered around the Port of Savannah.
The area has attracted a concentration of global manufacturing firms and is experiencing a steady increase in logistics demand, from raw material imports to finished product exports.
Moreover, the organic connection between the port and inland transportation networks positions Savannah favorably for future logistics expansion across North America.
A Hyundai Glovis spokesperson stated that they’re continuously enhancing our logistics infrastructure at key East and West Coast hubs to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving global supply chain landscape. Its strategy is to leverage the logistics competitiveness, centered on these local hubs, to flexibly meet the diverse needs of the global client base.
