Daewoong Pharmaceutical Partners With Seers and TR to Develop Integrated Smart Ward Respiratory Care Solution

HealthDaewoong Pharmaceutical Partners With Seers and TR to Develop Integrated Smart Ward Respiratory Care Solution

Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on Thursday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Seers and TR on May 21 at its headquarters to promote the expansion of digital healthcare solutions.

The core of this collaboration is the integration of Seers’ smart bed monitoring system Thync with TR’s digital-based lung function tester TheSpiroKit.

The three companies plan to develop an integrated smart medical solution for hospital use by connecting biometric monitoring data with respiratory test data, and to pursue its commercialization.

TheSpiroKit is a wireless handheld device that analyzes the user’s breathing patterns in real-time and aids in diagnosing major respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma through its digital-based automatic interpretation feature.

COPD is a common chronic respiratory disease characterized by progressive lung function decline, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath.

Through this agreement, the three companies will collaborate on joint research, development, and pilot projects to establish a next-generation smart ward platform.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical will be responsible for solution distribution and marketing to hospitals and medical institutions, as well as supporting the adoption in new hospitals. Seers will handle the research and development of medical service solutions based on the integration of Thync and TheSpiroKit, along with clinical trials and demonstration projects. TR will manage system integration and implementation in hospital settings.

This integrated solution aims to enable immediate lung function tests at the bedside, reducing the need for patient movement and minimizing testing delays. Furthermore, it is expected to allow for more continuous and precise monitoring by regularly assessing lung function changes of respiratory inpatients within the ward.

Notably, Thync will support early detection of respiratory abnormalities and proactive identification of high-risk patients by using artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate and analyze real-time biometric data it collects, such as electrocardiograms, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rates, with lung function test results.

Lee Chang-jae, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, stated that this agreement represents a significant step towards expanding the capabilities of smart wards by combining specialized diagnostic devices with bed monitoring, and added that it aims to improve access to lung function tests within the ward and create an environment that enables medical staff to manage patients more efficiently.
