Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, is set to meet with executives from Kakao and deliver a special lecture at Samsung Electronics during his upcoming visit to South Korea, according to industry sources.

The OpenAI chief is scheduled to visit Kakao’s Pangyo headquarters in Seongnam on June 15, where he will meet with Kakao CEO Chung Shin-a.

The meeting is expected to focus on expanding artificial intelligence collaboration between the two companies. Kakao and OpenAI have maintained an AI partnership, including the launch last year of ChatGPT for Kakao, a service that integrates OpenAI’s chatbot technology into the Kakao ecosystem.

While specific agenda items have not been disclosed, the companies are expected to review ongoing AI initiatives and discuss additional areas for cooperation.

Altman is also expected to meet with executives from Naver during his visit. Naver has recently expanded its AI partnerships, including discussions with NVIDIA on AI factory infrastructure and other AI-related projects.

During NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to South Korea earlier this month, the company highlighted Naver’s full-stack AI capabilities, including its proprietary HyperCLOVA X large language model, hyperscale data centers and cloud infrastructure, as key factors behind the partnership.

Separately, Altman is scheduled to speak at Samsung Electronics’ DX Insight Talk #2 event at Samsung Digital City in Suwon on June 15. His presentation is expected to focus on advances in generative AI, the transformation of industries and future business strategies.

Samsung Electronics is also preparing to roll out generative AI tools across its Device eXperience (DX) division beginning June 12. Employees will have access to external AI services including ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude as part of the company’s broader AI adoption strategy.
