North Korea emphasized the establishment of party-wide disciplinary practices and the reinforcement of the party’s centralized leadership system in a follow-up editorial after the 9th Party Congress.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, published an editorial titled, Let’s Prioritize Discipline, on its front page on June 21. The editorial asserted that discipline is the lifeblood of the party, stressing that instilling a culture of strict discipline and iron-clad order throughout the party is crucial for its survival and growth. The newspaper reported that the 9th Party Congress identified strengthening discipline as a key objective and insisted that party organizations and members must unwaveringly support the party’s centralized leadership.

Page 2 reported that a delegation of students from the Korean High School in Japan paid tribute at the statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill. The same page covered the opening of a photo and book exhibition in Moscow, Russia, commemorating the second anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between North Korea and Russia. A Russian representative highlighted the strengthening North Korea-Russia alliance, noting North Korean military support for Russia during the Kursk battles.

Page 3 featured the biographical novel Marshal Hyun Cheol-hae, promoting the idea that true living comes from cherishing the party’s trust as one’s lifeline. It also showcased examples of party cell secretaries addressing residents’ concerns and fostering organizational unity, underscoring the importance of loyalty and organizational control.

On page 4, an analysis of the Local Development 20×10 policy emphasized economic viability, optimization, and regional characteristics in local industrial plant construction. It also reported the completion of planned grain drying facility expansions at over 20 grain management offices and dozens of intermediate grain warehouses nationwide.

Page 5 highlighted poet Park Se-young, who authored North Korea’s national anthem. The newspaper portrayed Park as creating the anthem under Kim Il Sung’s guidance after liberation, emphasizing loyalty narratives in literature and arts.

Page 6 cited a memoir from a Pyongyang Medical University doctor’s father, depicting life during the Japanese occupation and stressing the importance of anti-imperialist and class-based education. In international news, it reported Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s warning of targeted strikes in response to Ukraine’s drone attacks.
